1999년 10월에 창간한 미술 월간지이다. 발행인은 중앙일보 출신의 언론인 이규일, 편집인은 『월간미술』 편집장을 지낸 김복기가 맡았다. 20여 년간 현대미술의 현장에서 창작과 향유의 플랫폼으로 활약했다. 국내외 미술의 쟁점을 가려내고, 작가와 작품을 비평적 잣대로 분석하는 기사에 주력했다. 미술의 국제화에 발맞춰 비엔날레, 아트페어, 아시아미술 등의 현장을 역동적으로 소개하는 데 강점을 보였으며, 북한미술과 디아스포라 등 20세기 미술사를 재조명하는 특집도 호평을 받았다. 당대 미술문화를 생생하게 기록하는 아카이브 기능과 함께 새로운 담론을 이끌어가는 비평 기능을 지켜 왔다. 부대행사로 작가 공모 ‘뉴페이스’와 ‘동방의 요괴’, 평론 공모 ‘뉴비전’ 등을 기획해, 신인 발굴과 육성에 힘을 쏟았다. 2007년 자매지로 영문잡지 『아트인아시아』를 창간했다. |

Art in Culture is an art monthly magazine, launched in October 1999. The original publisher was Lee Kyu-il, a journalist from JoongAng Ilbo, and the editor was Kim Bok-ki, a former editor of Monthly Art Magazine (Wolgan Misul). The magazine has been active as a platform for creativity and enjoyment in the field of modern art for more than 20 years. It has focused on articles about domestic and international art issues and critically analyzed artists and their works. In line with the globalization of art, the magazine showed its strength in dynamically introducing global art sites such as biennales, art fairs, and the wider field of Asian art, as well as shedding light on new 20th century Korean art history topics such as North Korean art and Diaspora art. These approaches have received favorable feedback from audiences. Along with providing an archival function that vividly records contemporary art culture, the journal has maintained an important critical function by leading a new raft of discourse on art production. The magazine has also organized art contests, such as The New Face and The Goblin of the East and art criticism contests, such as The New Vision, as auxiliary events to help discover and foster new talents. In 2007, an English-language sister magazine Art in Asia was launched. |

1999年10月创刊的美术月刊。发行人是中央日报出身的媒体人李圭日，编辑是曾任《月刊美术》主编的金福基。20多年来，作为创作和享受的平台一直活跃在当代艺术现场。该杂志致力于分析国内外美术争论的焦点，以批判性视角考察艺术家和作品。顺应美术的国际化，在生动介绍双年展、艺术展、亚洲美术现场方面表现抢眼。重新审视朝鲜美术和离散（Diaspora）问题等20世纪美术史的专号也广受好评。《Art in Culture》同时具备了生动记录当代艺术文化的档案功能和引领新讨论的批评功能。作为附带活动，策划了艺术家征集展《new face》、《东方妖怪》，以及评论奖赛《new vision》等以致力于挖掘培养新人。2007年创刊的英文杂志《Art in Asia》是其姊妹刊物。 |
